More than a grade check

A good shortlist starts
with your full story.

Germany’s universities set their own programme requirements. We help you put your background in context before you invest time, money and effort in an application.

Your academic route

Qualification, awarding institution, subjects and programme prerequisites—not just a percentage.

Your language plan

English or German teaching language, accepted evidence and the gaps to clarify before applying.

Your application steps

APS where applicable, the correct portal, any VPD requirement and a useful document sequence.

Your intake & budget

Programme-specific deadlines, tuition and living-cost questions, with time for the required checks.

Straight answers to common Germany study questions from students and families in Kerala.

Start with your own plan
01What is a German study pathway evaluation?

It is an initial counselling review of your academic background, intended subject, teaching language and target intake. Vidhyarthi Mithram helps identify the questions, documents and next steps for a Germany study plan. It is not a university admission decision, an APS certificate or a visa assessment.

02Can I apply for a master’s in Germany with an Indian degree?

Possibly, but eligibility is programme-specific. The university may assess your awarding institution, degree level and duration, subject modules, credits, grades and language evidence. A three-year degree is not automatically accepted or rejected everywhere. Share the exact degree and transcript with the relevant admissions team before relying on a shortlist.

03Can I study in Germany after Class 12?

Your route depends on the recognition of your school-leaving qualification, subjects and intended programme. Some applicants need a preparatory route rather than direct bachelor’s entry. The evaluation helps you identify the correct qualification checks; it does not turn a school percentage into an automatic admission result.

04Do I need IELTS or German language proficiency?

The teaching language and programme rules decide which evidence you need. English-taught programmes may specify accepted English tests and individual component scores. German-taught programmes usually require recognised German-language evidence at a specified level. Previous English-medium study is not a universal waiver. Always check the current programme rules.

05Is this evaluation the same as APS, and do I need dMAT?

No. APS India verifies relevant Indian academic documents; VM’s evaluation is independent counselling. APS currently describes an additional dMAT requirement for selected master’s applicant groups, with exceptions and transitional rules. Check the current APS announcement for your exact circumstances rather than assuming that every master’s applicant must take the test.

Read the current APS dMAT guidance
06What is a VPD, and does it complete my university application?

A VPD is uni-assist’s preliminary review documentation for a participating university. If the university uses this route, you normally still apply to that university separately and submit the VPD before its deadline. Not every German university or programme uses the VPD route.

Check uni-assist’s VPD procedure
07Can I apply with backlogs, a study gap or a change of subject?

These situations need an individual review. The university’s rules, completed credits, final results, subject prerequisites and explanation of your academic path can matter. There is no universal backlog limit or guaranteed acceptance policy across Germany. Bring accurate records and explain gaps honestly; do not omit unsuccessful attempts where disclosure is required.

08Is studying in Germany tuition-free?

Do not assume that every public university or every programme is free. Tuition, semester contributions and other charges vary by institution, programme, applicant category and fee year. Living costs, insurance, travel and required funding evidence also need planning. We help you build a realistic programme-specific budget rather than advertise a single nationwide price.

09When should I begin, and which intake should I choose?

Begin by checking your preferred programme’s next available start and application deadline. Not every course accepts students in both summer and winter, and scholarship or international-applicant deadlines may be earlier. Leave time for tests, academic documents, APS where applicable, a VPD where required and the university’s own submission steps.

10What should I prepare for a counselling review?

Have a summary of your qualification, awarding institution, subjects, grades, completion year, language-test stage, intended course and intake. Later, a counsellor can explain which transcripts, degree certificates, module descriptions or other documents are needed. Do not upload passport copies, identity numbers, bank statements or portal passwords into this initial enquiry.

11Can students outside Kochi request guidance?

Yes. Students and families across Kerala and elsewhere in India can start a conversation by phone, email or WhatsApp. Share your study goals and ask our team about a suitable counselling arrangement. An in-person visit is not required to use the initial checklist on this page.

12Is the checklist free, and how is my information sent?

The initial checklist on this page is free and can be viewed without entering contact details. It is generated in your browser and does not confirm admission. When online enquiry delivery is enabled, contact details are sent only after you submit with consent. Until then, you can prepare an email draft and choose whether to send it from your own email app.
