right for your route?
Applicants considering Indian management programmes using CAT. Selection can also involve academic performance, experience, writing and interviews; a test score is not the entire application.
CAT and GMAT are different assessments. For an overseas MBA, follow the school’s policy rather than assuming CAT is accepted. For CAT itself, use the current IIM CAT bulletin and official mock to confirm the cycle’s pattern and rules.

Save the exact course requirement: accepted test, version, overall and section scores, result age, reporting method and deadline. Confirm any ambiguity with admissions.

Find your starting point
Complete a current-format diagnostic, identify your weakest required skill and make an error log. Choose a realistic weekly schedule around school, work and application tasks.

Build skills deliberately
Alternate targeted learning with timed tasks. Seek specific feedback on work that cannot be reliably self-marked, and revisit recurring errors rather than only taking more mocks.

Practise under the actual test conditions, confirm identity and equipment rules and allow time for results and score delivery. Extend the plan if your evidence shows you are not ready.

Only where the particular school explicitly accepts it. Check the published MBA admissions requirements; CAT is not a universal substitute for GMAT or GRE.
Does a high CAT percentile guarantee an IIM offer?
No. Institutions apply their own selection criteria and may assess academic history, writing, interviews and other factors. Review the complete policy for each programme.
Which CAT pattern should I prepare for?
Use the current cycle’s official bulletin and mock test. Avoid treating a coaching provider’s prediction or an older paper’s question count as a confirmed future pattern.
Can I prepare in eight weeks?
The timeline here is an adaptable planning example, not a promise. Your starting level, target requirement, available study time and feedback determine how long you need. Begin early enough to improve skills rather than booking solely because a calendar says eight weeks.
